I am taking a course that provides 2007 Excel spreadsheets

I am taking a course that provides 2007 Excel spreadsheets with macros for calculating statistics.  I receive notification each time I open my desktop that tell me that there is a patch available for downloads.  Since these Excel macros do not work accurately and would this patch help?  I am told by the vendor of the course that Office 2007 has consistently not worked with these macros.
