Error "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Outlook cann
The Run command is what definitely worked.
I have Vista and Outlook 2007.
Start Run Type outlook.exe /resetnavpane
Hit Enter
Bam – problem solved and it did not cost me a dime Thanks everyone
start Run type "outlook.exe /resetnavpane" simple and quick ...
Here's what I did to resolve the problem:
I went to
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
I located the Outlook.xml file, renamed it to Outlook.xml.old , and restarted Outlook.
Open the command prompt and type this command it will work.
(or)
start---->run---->in the open space type the command below. outlook.exe /resetnavpane
saw previous advice to delete "outlook.xml" and replace the 123456 with your user name. Does anyone know how to fix this problem using vista? I have no "documents and setting folder" [did a search besides looking on my C drive]. ___________-- Noise Cancelling Headphones | SEO Agency
copy outlook.xml file from another computer and replace it with your file.for user running XP, Enable hidden files and go to
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook ( "user" is your profile, it can be different like your name)
For user running Vista process/path is more or less the same but you need to open "App data" and Roaming profile of your user account
Thanks a lot , the outlook.exe /resetnavpane. fixed it .

It worked with me and is very simple indeed.
Dear Microsoft Technicians,
I am having the invalid XML problem with my mircrosoft outlook. Can anyone please assist me on fixing this problem?
I tried all the 6 methods posted here. None works.
Appreciate if anyone could please enlighten me.
Regards, Alan
The roaming subdirectory worked. Just rename the xml and Office data file to something else. I presume you could delete also. I had not seen the "outlook.exe /resetnavpane" or I would have tried that first.
Same message. Same problem after battery back-up failed. Came back from vacation and couldn't even open Outlook! Scared me to death!
I tried the outlook.exe / resetnavpane and it worked like a charm!
Now sure how but I am SO THANKFUL you guys! Thanks Shashi!

I deleted the Outlook.xml file from C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.
This fixes the problem and outlook.xml is recreated when you start outlook.
I work at MS Outlook every day. To my mind I know this tool quite well. But one day before yesterday I was astonished, because of all my emails had been lost. I didn't know what to do next. By sheer chance a friend called me up and advised - outlook 2003 cannot view my sent items folder . It turned out the utility was very good and resolved my issue for a minutes and without money. Moreover the software helped my brother too. He thanked me a lot.
